Outlook search not working - Outlook not in "Indexing Options"

Dear Outlookers,

I am running Office 2013 64 bit on Windows Server 2012 and Outlook Search is not working.

Search does not return results.

I have added "From", "To", Subject" and "Body" field to the Search box (Using "+ More") - but they are greyed out and I can not use them.  How can I get these working ?

The Windows Search Service is running

Note that in File/Options/Search/Indexing Options I do not see "Microsoft Outlook". Whereas it does appear on other machines where search IS working.  Should it be there and how to I add it ?

Any other ideas on how to get search working would be appreciated.

Hi,

Based on my research, for "Microsoft Outlook" doesn't listed in Indexing Options, based on my tested with Outlook 2013, it does there. Try to repair Office 2013 to check whether this issue will be solved. If repair doesn't work, then try to re-install Office 2013 to check the issue.

As for "Outlook Search is not working", after you see "Microsoft Outlook" listed in Indexing Options, then click Modify. Uncheck "Microsoft Outlook" to check the issue.

Wow what a lot work for something so simple. Isn't there a registry entry that is pointing to the wrong spot? I have Outlook 2013 pointing to the wrong name. Why everything else is pointing to the correct login name is baffling.

I know this is an old thread, but there is a solution I have not seen anywhere and does not require you to rebuild you index or all the other time consuming options. When the search stops working in Outlook (online mode not cached) after applying any roll-up. go to program and features select "Microsoft Full Text Indexing Engine for Exchange" on the exchange server and select repair. give it a few minutes and the function will start to work again.
